I cannot believe that I was stupid enough to ever pay for a subscription to this worthless game! I get "socket closed" errors constantly. By constantly I mean literally every few minutes. This game is NOT playable!
I've tried to contact ccp and they just do NOT CARE! They seem to want people to quit instead of fixing the problem.
What I have done to correct the problem:
1)updated all software/hardware/firmware that has anything to do with my computer/router.
2)tried using computer directly to modem with lan cable (bypassing wifi and router).
3) I have pinged them and get around a 116ms ping as well as with trace route.
4)I always check my internet connection the second i loose game connection. Guess what, my internet is still working just fine as usual.
This is the only game/program that I have any internet problem with. What I have found out is that eve online uses a UDP connection and is very sensitive to lost packets thus causing the closed socket when to many packets are lost. UDP is not like TCIP you just have to hope that your data arrives. UDP is NOT a reliable or guaranteed connection... either you get the whole packet of data or none at all!!! CCP must know this but seems to care less about the problem.
If you are having socket closed errors or connection lost errors then i urge you to stop your subscription. They will only correct the problem if enough people stop playing their unplayable game.
Other wise this could possibly be the best game that I have ever played... but as of now it is simply the worst.

And one more thing to think about...
the fist post about this problem is from 12/11/2008 and there are now 48 PAGES!!!! with people complaining about the same exact problem...
Anyone can tell they have had ample time to solve this problem, yet the problem is still here. What does that tell you??? I'm sure you can form your own conclusions on what kind of a company they are running.

I'm just reporting in. The socket closed error is still happening and the game is still unplayable.
CCP still doesn't seem to care about robbing anyone.
Everyone who has this error should be issued a full refund as this error makes the game UNPLAYABLE!!!
Just an FYI. If you have gotten this error, that means you cannot ever use drones, or fly in low sec space. That means your are stuck doing skill training... oh what fun.

Just another followup... I just had a socket closed error while logging into the game. I didn't even make it to the character screen.
CCP you guys had a great idea, but you seriously need to hire some descent programmers with some real experience because this is just pathetic. You should seriously be embarrassed by how long your company has let this error go unfixed.

Same great socket closed error... CCP still refuses to answer emails about their error that they are to lazy to fix or they are just incompetent... either way my subscription is canceled... why pay for these lazy people to get rich???
The game is still unplayable!!! I want a refund, as of now I have been robbed! I paid for a service that I am not receiving!
They need to post wanted ads on www.monster.com and find professional experienced programmers who can write competent code.

The Solution is very simple. Save your self the stress, pain and agony and just CANCEL your SUBSCRIPTION(S)! Its time to move on to a game with programmers who are competent.
Like I have said before, why would they bother to fix a problem that you continue to pay for??? Its just common sense!

You suggest we all give up. We get it. Really we do. We got it the first, second and third times you suggested it.
However, many of us would rather encourage CCP to come up with a solution to this issue, which currently plagues the game we love, than follow you in your emoragequit tantrum.
Tried tunneling today, on the off chance it'd fix it. Definitely an improvement, but still getting socket closed 3-5 times an hour.
How many pages are there of people experiencing the same problem? How many of us have paid for a game only to find it is unplayable or that we loose out on what we have spent many hours to acquire? What does CCP have to say about all of this? What are they doing? Use your head, use common sense... they will only change and put effort into this if we continue to cancel our accounts! If the money stops rolling in they will have not choice but to find a solution to the problem!
I have said it before and I will say it again. If you get socket closed errors the game is unplayable! You should cancel your subscription as I have done!

Canceling your subscriptions is the only way they will ever fix this problem! When the money stops rolling in they have no choice but to shut down, or fix the problem!!!

What do you people not understand, CCP does NOT seem to care about you!!! They already have your $$$!!! So why would they change anything????
The only solution is to CANCEL YOUR SUBSCRIPTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
